BIO MONTSE OLIVER

Currently based in Geneva, Montse is originally from Barcelona. It wasn’t until 2006 that she had the opportunity to attend art lessons for the first time. She immediately fell in love with the challenge and possibilities that a blank canvas presents. Since she was frequently relocating to different countries with her husband and children.

in 2008 Montse decided to quit her corporate career. From then on, paints and easel have become part of her journey.

Lived experiences in these countries alongside her Mediterranean heritage are key sources of inspiration. The unique daylight nature offers during the different seasons or when reflected on unfamiliar elements, architecture or landscape as wells as the characteristic scent each city has, all somehow are part of that puzzle of feelings

she wants to portray. In her work, she pursues to represent that special feeling of belonging to a new place with a glimpse of nostalgia from the previous one. Montse likes to explore these topics through several recurrent and interrelated subjects.

Montse’s background in finance and accounting leaves also some marks on her work. She sometimes finds herself rationalizing the free flow of brushstrokes and realize is giving a calculated and structured approach to the paintings. She blends abstract and figurative styles, adding words or geometrical elements in some works and a touch of realism in others.

Her artworks are located in several countries across Asia, Europe and North America and have been included in international group exhibitions in Europe and Asia.
